Garage Door Panel Replacement
A sectional door is four or five panels hinged together. When a car, a bin or a basketball takes one out and the rest are straight, that one panel comes out and a new one goes in. It is ordered, not a truck part: maker, model, height, colour and window layout all have to match what is already on the door.

When One Panel Is the Job
The dent is in one section
A crease that stays inside one panel and has not pushed the hinges out of line. The door still runs, or runs with a knock where the crease passes the rollers.
The stiles and hinges are straight
Panels are joined at the hinge line. If the hinges and the end stiles on either side of the damage are square, the neighbouring sections can stay.
The maker still makes it
A door under about ten years old is usually still in production. Older lines get discontinued, and then no new panel will match the profile or the colour of the ones beside it.
What the Replacement Involves
The door is identified
Maker and model come off the label on the inside of an end stile, or off the panel profile and the hinge pattern when the label is gone. The panel is ordered against that, so the profile and the colour line up.
Priced both ways
A single panel on a door that is otherwise sound is the cheaper repair. Two or more bad sections on an older door usually cost more in panels than the door is worth, and that is said before anything is ordered.
Tension off, section out
The spring is unwound and the door secured before the hinges on the damaged section are broken. On a bottom panel the cable brackets come off too, which is where the tension lives.
Hinges, rollers and balance
The new section takes the old hinges where they are straight and new ones where they are not. The door is re-tensioned and run by hand before the opener goes back on.

Common Questions
Can you replace just one panel of a garage door?
Yes, when the maker still supplies it and the sections around it are straight. If the line is discontinued, or two or more panels are creased, a new door is usually the better price.
Will the new panel match the colour?
It matches the colour as the maker ships it. A door that has faded in the sun for years will show a new section as slightly brighter until it weathers in.
Can a dented garage door panel be repaired instead?
A shallow dent in a steel panel can sometimes be pulled. A crease across the panel, or any damage to the hinge line, cannot, because the panel no longer holds its shape under the load of the door.
How much does garage door panel replacement cost?
It depends on the maker, the size of the section, and whether the door is a current model. We come out, identify the door, and give you the price for free before anything is ordered.
