Garage Door Spring Repair
A snapped spring is the most common garage door failure. Springs ride on the truck in the common sizes, so most spring jobs booked before 2pm are finished the same day.

Signs the Spring Has Gone
The door will not lift
The opener strains, hums, or lifts the door a few inches and gives up. Without the spring it is trying to lift the whole weight of the door.
A bang from the garage
A torsion spring lets go with a noise people describe as a gunshot. The door usually worked fine until that moment.
A gap in the coil
Look at the shaft above the door. A broken torsion spring leaves a visible gap where the coil separated. On a door with extension springs along the side tracks, one will be hanging slack.
What the Repair Involves
Door secured first
The door is clamped in the tracks before anything is unwound. With the spring gone, nothing is holding its weight.
The right spring for your door
Springs are sized off wire gauge, length, inside diameter and drum size, and rated in cycles rather than years. A spring on the wrong rating works for a while and then fails early.
Both springs, or one
Both springs are the same age and have done the same number of cycles, so when one goes the other is usually close behind. We price it both ways.
Balance check before we leave
The door is disconnected from the opener and lifted by hand. It should stop and hold wherever you leave it.

Great experience. The technician was on time and had it fixed same day.Highly recommend
Great experience! One of the springs on my garage door broke, and I couldn’t get the door open, my husband was away and I had no one else to help. I called Irongate and they were able to come out quickly. The technician explained what happened, replaced the broken spring, and made sure everything was working properly before leaving. The service was professional, the price was reasonable, and there were no surprises. It’s nice to find a company that is honest, responsive, and easy to work with. I would definitely recommend them for any garage door repairs.
Common Questions
Can I replace a garage door spring myself?
No. A torsion spring holds enough tension to break an arm, and it has to be unwound with winding bars in a set order.
How long does a spring replacement take?
Most are under an hour on site. The springs come with us, so there is no second visit waiting on a part.
How much does garage door spring repair cost?
It depends on the spring type, the weight of the door, and whether you replace one spring or both. We do not quote springs over the phone. We come out, look at the door, and give you the price for free before anything starts.
How long should a new spring last?
Springs are rated in cycles rather than years, so it depends how often the door runs. High-cycle springs are an option if yours runs a lot.
